KB: WHO ARE YOU?
I AM a brother
I AM a son
I AM a lawyer
I AM a yogi
I AM a born and bred Trinidadian who enjoys new challenges and experiences. My philosophy in life is that I want to die with a smile on my face, meaning that at the end of this journey called life, I must look back with contentment and a sense of pride and fulfillment, that’s copyrighted btw *lol*.
KB: WHEN AND WHY DID YOU START YOGA?
I’ve been doing yoga on and off again since I was a child but my Sangha journey began in April 2013, due to a knee injury. I was looking for new non-explosive ways to keep fit.
KB: AND THE SANGHA TRINIDAD HASN’T BEEN THE SAME SINCE!! WOULD IT BE BAD TO SAY THANK GOODNESS FOR THAT KNEE INJURY?? LOL…YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN *WINK*
KB: NOW THAT YOU ARE INTO YOUR YOGA PRACTICE, WHAT CHANGES HAVE YOU SEEN?
I’ve become more body aware at times, and most importantly I’ve learned the importance of breathing. I’ve also seen changes in my posture and endurance. I’ve actually learned that to do anything with the body you have to first, do it with the mind and that it’s important to take time
to think before doing, not always possible during a flow or core class though.
KB: NOT ALWAYS POSSIBLE, BUT VERY IMPORTANT! THE FASTER YOU MOVE, THE MORE MINDFUL YOU MUST BE.
KB: WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST SURPRISE ABOUT YOGA?
How intense and demanding some of the classes can be physically and mentally, NB: DO NOT GO TO A CLASS MARKED “CHALLENGING” OR “EXTRA CHALLENGING” UNLESS YOU’RE PREPARED TO BE CHALLENGED OR EXTRA CHALLENGED.
KB: LOL, YOU SAID IT!! BECAUSE I WILL NOT HOLD BACK. IT’S NOT THAT I DON’T WANT YOU TO TRY SOMETHING NEW, BUT THE MAIN REASON I DO THAT IS TO TRY TO ENCOURAGE YOU TO FIND THE BENEFITS IN STARTING SLOW. LEARN THE BASICS FIRST. SEE HOW YOUR BODY HANDLES THAT…DEVELOP BREATH, STRENGTH, AWARENESS…STAMINA FIRST. SO WHEN YOU DO TRY THOSE “CHALLENGING” CLASSES YOU ARE BETTER PREPARED AND WE HAVE LESS CHANCE OF INJURY. I MEAN YOU CAME BECAUSE YOU WERE INJURED, WHY RISK MORE, RIGHT?
KB: WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE YOGA POSE(S)?
I’ll always be lazy at heart so childs pose and downward dog.
KB: DOWNWARD DOG? LAZY? UHHHH…NOTE TO SELF: WORK ON ROSHAN’S DOWNWARD DOG!!! I GET IT THOUGH…WHEN YOU TRY THOSE “CHALLENGING” CLASSES…A GOOD DOWNWARD DOG SEEMS LIKE HEAVEN THOUGH, RIGHT? *HAHAHAHA*
KB: WHAT’S YOUR LEAST FAVOURITE YOGA POSE(S)?
I’m never telling because Ms. Blackman may be inspired to do it more often.
KB: BUT HOW YOU MEAN *EVIL GRIN*…*LOL*!
KB: HOW ABOUT SOME DEEPER PERSONAL STUFF….
I’m a naturally tense and uptight person so the Sangha has brought me that 75-90mins of much needed peace in life. I think i’m still learning to take one day at a time. Once you are in the right environment and have the right opportunities, you can achieve your goals.
KB: SAWEEET!
KB: YA GOT ANY STORIES?
The Carnival challenge is a gruelling but worthwhile month of fun and pain! It’s interesting that Karen has the energy to go to fetes after she’s done torturing you. It’s also amazing how the brain works early in the morning…I’d also like to say that in order for me to even make it to a class requires careful planning and scheduling as my boss Jane Murray is also a Sangha student and we have a rule that we do not attend the same classes. So each week, as part of our department meeting we sit down with the Sangha schedule to see who gets what days *lmao*.
KB: UHHH…WATCH YUH LANGUAGE…YUH SCARING THE REGULARS *LOL*! ALLYUH TINK IS EASY TO TEACH EH? I ASSURE YOU IT HURTS ME, MORE THAN IT HURTS YOU! AND TRUST ME, I KNOW HOW SERIOUS THAT PLANNING IS…I MENTIONED YOUR COMMENT TO HER AND SHE WAS LIKE…UHHH YEAH! *LOL*! ALLYUH TOO FUNNY!
KB: WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST FEAR – IN GENERAL, IN LIFE?
My greatest fear in life is V2 Flow.
KB: YOU…ARE…CRACKING…ME…UP!!!!! IF THAT’S ALL, THEN LIFE REAL GOOD FOR YOU!
KB: WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER TO BE YOUR BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT?
My biggest accomplishment is surviving a flow class.
KB: STOP! *HAHAHAHA* #ONTHEFLOORWITHTHISONE
KB: WHAT ARE YOU MOST HAPPY WITH OR ABOUT?
I’m most happy that through the Sangha I was able to find a place where my body can be challenged and kept in shape while my mind can be put at ease.
KB: ANY OTHER THOUGHTS OR WORDS OF WISDOM YOU’D LIKE TO PASS ON OR SHARE?
To everyone who does not know, Karen has the most amazing hands. Also she’s a liar, when she says a class is going to be easy, just know that that’s absolutely not true, but she believes in her brand and cares for the development of all her students. I think this is true of all the
instructors, and I think it’s that personalised care and attention that sets the Sangha apart.
KB: AWWWW…THANX, MANG! BUT FOR THE RECORD…ANYONE WHO TRULY KNOWS MY CLASSES WILL TELL YA THAT I NEVER USE THE WORD “EASY”…THAT’S JUST NOT IN MY VOCABULARY *HAHAHAHA*! SO CLEARLY WE HAVE WAYYYY MORE BONDING TO DO *WINK*…
If it’s one thing that Roshan has learned, it is as he said…”DO NOT GO TO A CLASS MARKED “CHALLENGING” OR “EXTRA CHALLENGING” UNLESS YOU’RE PREPARED TO BE CHALLENGED OR EXTRA CHALLENGED.” Yes it was a harrrrrd lesson to learn, right Roshan? He knows he came because of a knee injury but he figured his strength was there…he could handle it man. And we haven’t seen him tackle that class again…yet. Roshan has learned his limitations right now and he is quite happy working within them for now. That said, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t work hard in class. He listens to his body and does it with a smile. When his schedule allows OR his and his boss’s agreed to schedule allows, Roshan is dedicated to his practice. And they way he joked earlier? Be prepared for more of that in class…he is HILARIOUS!!!
Roshan, I am so thankful that our paths have crossed! Yeah it may not have been under the best circumstances, but you came. It is a joy, a pleasure and an honour to have you in class. I love the way you learn with wide eyes…always asking questions…keeping us on our toes. I remember your shakey plank when you started and I see your strong plank today!!! You’ve changed your diet…and are really being extra conscious of your health and what you want out of life…you ROCK!
So keep on my friend and the results will be positive…remember that Tribe bod for Carnival?? Yeah that was him!!
So thank you, thank you, thank you for allllllll your support!
Thank you for the jokes and for all your questions!!
Oodles of goodness and hugz of sunshine!!!
