The Sangha Trinidad is big on Sangha Support…Community Support.
A couple of years ago, The Sangha Trinidad set out to support one of our instructors who hailed from South Africa. She needed to complete a project for her Teacher Training, the theme was Sangha Support. So we all jumped in and tried to help.
The project was called HAPPY FEET. We did yoga in the savannah to help raise enough funds to help support the WHATSUPZANZI Project in South Africa to help provide shoes for over 7 million kids who are in need there. We decided to call our project…THE HAPPY FEET project…EVERY TT$100.00 we raised = 1 pair of new shoes, 2 HAPPY FEET and 1 BIG smile! Our goal was to get 150 pairs of shoes…see the highlights here
By the time we finished we had actually raised 194 pairs of shoes!!
We defied the odds…we had just lost the studio…our world was rocked and it messed up a few of our plans for fundraising. We even had to postpone the event because of a huge rain storm on the original date. But we persevered…The Sangha came together and it was awesome!!
For International Yoga Day on June 21, The Sangha Trinidad did something crazy! We had one yoga class that consisted of over 9 styles of yoga, over 9 yoga instructors in 90mins! And we were accompanied by Modupe, one of the best World Percussionists out there. We called the class A One World Yoga/Percussion Class! It was truly a success!
We raised $3000 in total – $1200 for Animals Alive; $500 for TTSPCA in Tobago and $1300 for Autism!!
So get out there folks…you never know what your 2 cents can do!
